The Sutherland Institute’s philosophy is simple: We believe that parents are responsible for their childrens' education and that the state role in education is primarily as a support to parents. We also believe that educational freedom is a necessary ingredient in providing the best education possible for each individual student.

Utah's Freedom Conference: Saturday, September 18

We encourage you to plan now to participate in Utah’s Freedom Conference: Reclaiming Our Constitutional Heritage on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at the Radisson Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown.

Sponsored by Utah United, A Coalition of Utah's Pro-Republic Organizations, this day-long educational event will feature locally- and nationally-respected specialists, including Dan Byfield, president of the American Land Foundation, and Karen Budd-Falen, a successful defender of land-use cases in federal courts.  Two of Utah's congressmen, Rep. Rob Bishop, and Rep. Jason Chaffetz, will address the Tenth Amendment and related topics, and Bill Howell, co-author of the book Statehood and an expert on state and federal lands, will speak on Utah's recent state sovereignty legislation.  Other presenters and workshop facilitators will include members of the Utah Legislature and leaders among the state’s citizen-advocacy groups.
